Gifts of Stock

A gift of appreciated stock is a powerful way to support the mission of the Church while making the most of the resources God has entrusted to you.

WHY CONSIDER GIFTS OF STOCK?

Giving appreciated securities—such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds—can be one of the most effective ways to support Catholic ministries.

  • Avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets
  • Receive a charitable deduction for the full fair-market value
  • Make a larger impact than giving cash alone

Many donors find that stock gifts allow them to give more generously while stewarding their resources wisely

All stock, IRA, and matching gift donations are processed through the Gift Acceptance Office (Web form click here) of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg, and will be credited directly to the Foundation fund indicated by the donor in accordance with the donors’ wishes.

HOW TO GIVE STOCK

Step 1: Notify Us of Your Intent

This ensures your gift is properly received and credited. Before initiating your transfer, please let us know:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Name of the stock or security
  • Number of shares
  • The parish, school, or ministry you wish to support
  • How you would like your gift applied

Step 2: Transfer Your Stock

Ask your broker to transfer the shares directly to the Diocese’s brokerage account.

We strongly recommend electronic (broker-to-broker) transfer for the fastest and most secure delivery.

Step 3: Confirm Your Gift

Once the transfer is complete:

  • Your gift will be processed through the Diocese
  • It will be directed to the fund or ministry you designated
  • You will receive acknowledgment for your records
