This year’s Celebration was a tremendous success! We thank our presenting sponsors, Chris and Lauren Schellman. Through their generosity, along with the others who attended this year’s event, we will definitely impact the lives of students in our Catholic schools that may otherwise not be able to afford to attend.
Held on February 11th at the Hilton Downtown Tampa, the evening featured a very motivational and inspirational talk from our keynote speaker, former NFL player/coach and ESPN analyst, Herm Edwards, our first ever live auction and, the biggest treat of the night, an opportunity to meet and get to know our new bishop, Most Rev. Gregory Parkes.
In his talk, Bishop Parkes shared some stories about his Catholic school days and the effect it had on him and his desire to enter the priesthood. Bishop also agreed to host a dinner as one of our live auction prizes and it was the hit of the evening. As a matter of fact, the bidding between two parties was so spirited that Bishop agreed to host a second dinner to accommodate both of them! In all, more than $300,000 was raised that evening supporting the tuition assistance programs in our diocesan schools.
Earlier that day, Bishop Parkes and Herm Edwards had lunch with some of our Catholic Foundation scholarship recipients. Edwards shared some interesting insights into the desirable characteristics he has when it comes to his players and in life.
